Reduce the noise

On being the person who removes drama, not the one who brings it.

operatingleadership

The best people I've worked with don't bring drama.

They remove it.

They don't escalate everything.

They don't make their boss guess what they need.

They don't walk in with a problem and no direction.

They bring clarity.

Context.

A next step.

Somewhere along the way I realized my job wasn't to agree with my boss, or pretend things were fine when they weren't.

My job was to make them more effective — clearer decisions, less friction, fewer surprises.

I've worked for people I didn't love.

That didn't change the job.

You can add noise, or you can reduce it.

The people who keep moving forward are almost always doing the second one.
